About this work

The panel is a fragment of what was probably the left wing of an altarpiece. It is heavily trimmed at the bottom; originally, both Onuphrius kneeling in prayer on the former exterior side and the holy bishops Augustine and Wolfgang on the interior side were visible as full-length figures. The base of the gray plinth of the two bishops is still visible at today's lower edge of the panel. It connects the panel with our Inv. 809, which probably once formed its counterpart.
