About this work
The sculptor Aimé-Jules Dalou (1838–1902) belonged to Auguste Rodin's close circle of friends during the creation of the bust. A few years later, however, their friendship broke down due to competition in competitions and artistic differences. Rodin first exhibited the plaster of the bust at the Paris Salon of 1884 and subsequently had several bronze casts and plaster replicas made.
