Tankard

Oversized, raised cylindrical peg tankard with a flat-top dome lid, flared rim, and a cast crouching-lion-and-ball figure for the thumb piece and three feet. Lid is engraved "H•R•P•S - G•J•D" above two armorial devices or coats of arms and the date "1663", all framed by large blooms filling the perimeter. Wrigglework engraved tulips, daffodils, and petaled flowers encircle the body; script initials on front "A.A.S.D. / G.O.D.N." added later. Five-knuckle hinge with engraved rounded drop; hollow, D-section, S-curve handle with flat pinwheel-shape terminal. Four ball pegs inside. Underside of rounded bottom has centerpoint and incised compass design and is struck once "I•R" in raised serif letters near center with weight "W=80 Lod" and "241" engraved at left.
