About this work
Seamed, tulip-shaped, footed cup or mug with repousse chased crossed stems of flowers forming a reserve on front engraved in script "SCAS / to / M. A. Washington / for the best Floral / design / Oct. 1851." Hollow, spurred, broken scroll handle; applied beaded and quarter round rim and foot ring; flat bottom set in. Bottom underside struck once at center "PURE COIN" in raised serif letters in a triangle. Above and below are remnants of white paper labels. No maker's marks.
