Tankard

Tankard with a crenellated, stepped flat-top lid and raised straight tapered sides with applied moldings around rim, lower body and base. Cast S-curve, split scrolled acanthus leaf thumbpiece attaches to five-knuckle hinge with pendant drop. Hollow, D-section, S-curve handle is engraved "* / *A*M* / *" in serif letters on the face and has a curved heel terminal. Struck with four marks on top of lid and on rim exterior to right of handle: raised serif letters "PA" in a curvilinear surround; Britannia seated to the left in a rounded-corner surround; a lion's head erased in a rounded-corner surround; and an angular letter in an elongated five-pointed surround. Centerpunch inside lid.
