About this work

Lidded, urn-shaped pitcher with ribbed lower half on a flared pedestal base with stepped, circular foot. Conforming, domed and hinged lid is topped by a cast, ruffled acanthus scroll. Incurved neck has curved rim and wide pouring lip. Bands of gadrooning applied at shoulder and foot. Right-angled, C curve wood handle, square in section, is pinned into a flared upper socket and scroll-ended lower socket. Underside of rounded bottom is struck with three side-by-side pairs of marks above "1"; "5" scratched on underside of base.
