Teapot

Circular urn-shaped teapot on a beaded, domed pedestal base with beaded, conical hinged lid topped by a cast bulbous vase. Flat-chased and engraved floral and strapwork designs decorate the incurved neck and ovoid body. Bands of large beads at rim and bottom of neck and base. Cast, leafy scrollwork S-curve spout and S-curve handle; handle is pinned into thin insulators with a flared shell or fan for the upper socket and the lower terminal attached with a rosette. Body finely perforated at spout. Circular medallion or tag applied to underside of rounded bottom is embossed "* ROGERS, SMITH & C\o. (arched) / (flourish) / N\o. / NEW HAVEN, C\T. * (curved)" and struck incuse "1833" and "5". From same service as syrup pitcher and stand, DL*60.1146B-.1147.
