About this work
Egg-shaped lidded jar of porcelain with a cylindrical lid, painted in underglaze blue. The belly is covered with 'crackled ice' with lotus tendrils, pearls, and two large, leaf-shaped cartouches carved out. In the cartouches, two flower branches (peony, chrysanthemum, magnolia, hydrangea) and bamboo leaves or insects. On the shoulder a band with triangles in blue with a motif carved out. The lid with the same decoration. From the 'Hatcher junk' which sank around 1645. Old label on the underside with 'The Hatcher Collection/ Christie's Amsterdam/ 14-03-1984'. A chip in the lid. Transitional porcelain in blue and white.
