About this work
Egg-shaped lidded pot of porcelain, painted in underglaze blue. The body is covered with 'crackled ice' with carved-out lotus tendrils, pearls, and two large, leaf-shaped cartouches. In the cartouches, two flower branches (peony, chrysanthemum, magnolia, hydrangea) and bamboo leaves or insects. On the shoulder, a band with triangles in blue with a carved-out motif. Originating from the 'Hatcher junk' which sank around 1645. Old label on the underside with 'The Hatcher Collection/ Christie's Amsterdam/ 14-03-1984'. Transitional porcelain in blue and white.
