About this work
Porcelain flower pot, painted in underglaze blue and overglaze red, green, black, and gold. On the outer wall, three sculpted cartouches with two cranes by a pine tree, a hoopoe above a tree, and one with a shishi (lion-dog) by a peony. Around the cartouches, leafy scrolls interrupted by two opposite compartments from the rim and foot with lotus scrolls and a half-flower rosette. Around the foot, a band with petal-shaped compartments with flower branches; on the outer rim, a band with lotus scrolls. The inner rim has a band with half-flower rosettes. There is a hole in the bottom. The pot has been broken. Imari.
