About this work
Porcelain dish, painted in underglaze blue and overglaze red, black, and gold. On the flat surface, a double medallion with a flower vase containing chrysanthemums and peonies. The wall and rim are divided into four compartments with two shishi (lion-dogs) in a landscape, two birds on a branch of a prunus tree, and twice a ruyi-shaped cartouche with a fenghuang against a blue background with floral scrolls. The dish is mounted in a metal frame. Probably a European (French?) imitation of Japanese Imari.
