About this work

On the bottom of this teapot is an inscription composed of eight Chinese characters: Dingchou dongri Yongqing fanggu, which translates as 'made by Yongqing in the style of old masters on a winter day in the year of Ding Chou.' Once the teapot was in Europe, it was fitted with a gold chain to keep the pot and its cover together.
