About this work

Cup and saucer of porcelain, painted on the glaze in blue, red, black and gold. On the base of the saucer the coat of arms of the family Saunders with three elephants; the crest is also an elephant surrounded by acanthus leaves. On the wall a European decorative band in Louis XIV style with birds and damask pattern in cartouches. Old label on the underside with 'Saunders (governor of Madras)'. A crack in the wall of the cup. Coat-of-arms porcelain with enamels.
