About this work
Porcelain plate, painted on the glaze in red, black, and gold. The center depicts Martin Luther (1483-1546) in an ornate cartouche, beneath which is a second cartouche showing Christ surrounded by his disciples; the wall features a 'spearhead-border'; the rim has a European decorative band with shell and vine motifs. European representation in encre de Chine.
