About this work
Porcelain plate, painted on the glaze in red, black and gold. On the flat surface a mythological scene with Cybele in her chariot drawn by two lions, to her left a kneeling woman offering her a wreath. To the right of Cybele three more goddesses: Ceres, Flora and Pomona; on the wall a decorative band; the rim with a decorative band and a 'speardhead-border'. A chip in the rim. Two old labels on the underside with 'F. Bodenham/ Elmhurst, Hereford/ 73' and '7/ Cybele/ [...]'. European depiction in encre de Chine.
