About this work

Porcelain plate, painted on the glaze in black and gold. On the flat surface a young man with a fishing rod on the bank of a river, behind him a basket, jug and fish and in front of him a dead tree and two fish traps, on the other side of the river a village with mountains; the rim with a European decorative pattern. On the underside two old labels with 'F. Bodenham/ Elmhurst, Hereford/ 52' and '16/ The Fisherman/ [...]'. Representation based on the print The Young Fisherman by Abraham Bloemaert (1564-1651). European representation in encre de Chine.
