About this work
Porcelain plate with the wall divided into two flaring sections, the upper one ribbed, and a scalloped rim. Painted in enamel colors on the glaze in blue, red, pink, green, purple, black, and gold. On the center of the plate a scene of a man and woman sitting in an interior with draperies; the woman wears a low-cut dress and the man leans towards her, placing a number of coins in her lap; the inner rim with a band with leafy scrolls to which floral or fruit sprigs are attached. The scene is based on an engraving by Bernard Picart (1673-1733). European representation in enamel colors.
