About this work
These candlesticks probably made their way to Europe at the end of the 18th century. They are early examples of the porcelain produced in the kilns of Mikawachi (near Nagasaki), which was also very popular in Europe. In contrast to the later examples on the right in this display case, the colour of the blue is darker and the porcelain is less delicate.
