About this work

Lid of a baluster-shaped porcelain lidded jar, painted in underglaze blue and overglaze red, black, and gold. Decorated with three large cartouches featuring a shishi between a blooming peony plant; the cartouches are separated by bands of scrollwork containing a lobed cartouche. On the rim, a band with lotus tendrils. Lid knob in the form of a shishi on a rock. Part of a stacked set. Imari.
