Plate with the Costerman revolt, the plundering of the house of Jacob van Zuylen

Porcelain plate, painted in underglaze blue. On the flat surface a representation of the Costerman riot with the plundering and demolition of the house of the chief bailiff Jacob van Zuylen van Nyevelt, the left one in the row; in the foreground cannons; behind them a group of men attempting to pull down the facade with ropes; further including a man on a ladder, a man carrying woodwork away from the house, and a man with a broom. The rim with napkin work with four carved cartouches containing mushrooms (lingzhi) or fruit branches. The back with a band of lotus tendrils and swastika motif. Marked on the underside with the six-character mark of Emperor Chenghua in a double circle. A crack in the rim. European representation in blue and white.
