About this work
When Cadmus with his cow has reached the place where he will found the city of Thebes, he has his companions fetch sacrificial water in a nearby forest. When the men fill their water urns in the forest, the dragon of Mars attacks them. In fright, they drop the urns. In the representation, the dragon bites one of the men in his side. Below the representation, two times two lines of verse in Latin. The print is part of an album.
