Comparison of the attire of the French and German horseman. The German horseman (left) is elegant and can appear in good company after riding. On his head a Chapeau à l'Androsman (not named as such in the text). He is dressed in a red Berlin frock coat that overlaps at the chest and is fastened with a few buttons. Underneath, a white waistcoat and "Hungarian" riding breeches of white goatskin. White goatskin gloves. Chatelaine with one watch. Black riding boots with silver English spurs. Riding crop in hand. The French horseman is "incorrectly dressed". Faults noted: a riding coat that is too long, lacking any elegance. Waistcoat that... Chatelaines with two watches (one is enough).
