About this work
A soldier, full-length, facing right, with a musket (a specific type of firearm) resting on his left shoulder (no. 2), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the stock of the musket, a fork (musket fork) and a burning match. Plate 2 in the instructions for handling the musket: Corte onderrechtinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, soo veel aengaet het recht ghebruyck vant Musquet. Part of the illustrations in: J. de Gheyn, Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende spiessen, 's-Gravenhage, 1607. Military affairs around 1600.
