A soldier on guard, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) with his left hand at his right side, the barrel angled upward (no. 37), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the musket, a lit match. He extends his right hand. Plate 37 in the instructions for handling the musket.
