About this work
A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) and a fork (musket fork) with his left hand (no. 14), ca. 1600. With his right hand he loosens the burning match that lies on the cock (part of the ignition mechanism) of his musket. Plate 14 in the instructions for handling the musket: Corte onderrechtinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, soo veel aengaet het recht ghebruyck vant Musquet.
