About this work
A soldier, full-length, facing right, shaking a musket (a specific type of firearm) with both hands, to possibly get powder that has fallen outside the pan (the powder reservoir) off it (no. 19), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the barrel of the musket, a fork (musket fork) and a burning match. Plate 19 in the instructions for handling the musket: Corte onderrechtinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, soo veel aengaet het recht ghebruyck vant Musquet. Part of the illustrations in: J. de Gheyn, Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende spiessen, 's-Gravenhage, 1607. Military affairs around 1600.
