About this work
A soldier, full-length, holding a spear (lance) with both hands upright in front of him, slightly above the ground (no. 2), ca. 1600. This is the first action for lifting the spear upright. Plate 2 in the instructions for handling the spear: Corte onderwysinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, belanghende t'recht ghebruyck, van al t'ghene een Soldaet int handelen vande Spies noodich is.
