About this work

A soldier, full-length, seen from the back, holding a musket (a certain type of firearm) with his left hand at his left thigh, the barrel pointing diagonally upwards (no. 21), ca. 1600. With his right hand he grasps a powder horn at his side. Plate 21 in the instructions for handling the musket. Part of the illustrations in: J. de Gheyn, Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende spiessen, Amsterdam, 1608. Military affairs around 1600.
