About this work
A soldier, full-length, facing right, carrying a spear (lance) almost horizontally above his right shoulder (no. 9), ca. 1600. His hands far apart on the spear. This is the second action for raising the spear to the shoulder and carrying it horizontally. Plate 9 in the instructions for handling the spear: Corte onderwysinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe belanghende trechte gebruck, van alle t'ghene een Soldaet int handelen vande Spies noodich is.
