About this work

A soldier, full-length, carrying a pike above his right shoulder, the point angled towards the ground (no. 12), ca. 1600. His hands held wide apart around the pike. This is the first movement for lowering the pike to pass under an overhang. Plate 12 in the instructions for handling the pike: Corte onderwysinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe belanghende trechte gebruck, van alle t'ghene een Soldaet int handelen vande Spies noodich is.
