About this work

A soldier, full-length, carrying a spear (lance) over his right shoulder, the point angled towards the ground (no. 12), ca. 1600. His hands far apart on the spear. This is the first movement for lowering the spear to pass under an overhang. Plate 12 in the instructions for handling the spear: Enseignement brief; et succint sur les portraitz figurez, touchant l'usage, de tout ce qu'un Soldat doibt faire au maniement de la Pique.
