A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) with his left hand after having fired, the barrel angled upwards to prevent accidentally injuring a comrade (no. 12), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the musket, he holds a lit match. Plate 12 in the instructions for handling the musket: Brief enseignement, sur la representation des figures, du droit maniement de l'Harquebuse.
