A soldier on guard, full-length, facing right, taking a matchlock (a specific type of firearm) from his left shoulder with his right hand (no. 34), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the stock of the matchlock, he holds a lit match. This is the same position as the one shown in the second print of the series. Plate 34 in the instructions for handling the matchlock: Brief enseignement, sur la representation des figures, du droit maniement de l'Harquebuse.
