About this work

A soldier, full-length, facing right, taking a musket (a certain type of firearm) from his left shoulder with his right hand (no. 2), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the stock of the musket, a burning match cord. Plate 2 from the instructions for handling the musket. Part of the illustrations in: J. de Gheyn, Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende spiessen, Amsterdam, 1608. Military affairs around 1600.
