About this work

A soldier, full-length, carrying a spear (lance) with his left hand at his right side, the point angled upward (no. 13), ca. 1600. This is the second movement for lowering the spear to pass under an overhang. Plate 14 in the instructions for handling the spear: Enseignement brief; et succint sur les portraitz figurez, touchant l'usage, de tout ce qu'un Soldat doibt faire au maniement de la Pique.
