Harlequin Share Trader, 1720

Satirical print on the shareholders. The harlequin Bombario and a fool lift a curtain revealing the share trading at the Quincampoix coffee house, where a large crowd of share traders jostle to get shares that are being vomited from a podium. In the foreground, Mercury is imprisoned in a cage. At the top in the garland, a pig's head, cow's head, etc. Used as the title page in the play of the same name by Pieter Langendijk from 1720. Print (cut out and mounted) in the bound first edition (304 B 11) of Het Groote Tafereel der Dwaasheid with satirical prints on the Wind Trade or Share Trading of 1720.
