About this work
Satire on the stock speculators. The harlequin Bombario and a fool lift a curtain revealing the stock trading at the Quincampoix coffee house, where a large crowd of speculators jostles to buy shares being shouted from a podium. In the foreground, Mercury is imprisoned in a cage. Also used as a title page for the comedy of the same name by Pieter Langendijk from 1720. Print 12 in the series Het Groote Tafereel der Dwaasheid with caricatures on the Windhandel or Share Trading of 1720.
