About this work
The World's Merry-Go-Round. A carousel on which wind traders, standing in the baskets, try to grab share certificates scattered by figures (a farmer and inhabitants of the South Sea, Mississippi, and West Indies) standing on the masts of the carousel. In the foreground, other gentlemen wait for their turn on the carousel; on the right, desperate speculators. In the background, left: Vianen; right: ships at sea. With a four-column caption by Philadelphus. Print in the bound first edition (304 B 11) of Het Groote Tafereel der Dwaasheid with satirical prints on the Wind Trade or Share Trading of 1720.
