About this work

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace, Portuguese lace. The repeating pattern consists of the flower of a poppy, alternated by the flower heart of this poppy on a short stem. On the coarse rhomboid mesh ground, a scatter pattern of indistinct shapes is visible, increasing in size towards the top edge. Worked with thick threads. The motifs are made in linen stitch with openwork edges and a configuration of cutouts in the flower hearts. The underside is faintly wavy and edged with picots. The top edge is straight-finished.
