About this work

Nowadays, an 'ice stick' is associated with a winter sport, similar to curling, in which a smooth disc with a stem is slid as far as possible across an icy surface. Formerly, sticks with a metal tip were used as an aid for walking on ice. The two little silver skates on a chain most likely refer to this function.
