Curtain of Painted Silk Decorated with Flowers and Birds

Curtain of painted silk. On fine white sateen, a contour drawing was printed and a hand-painted color decoration (?) applied, the pattern consisting of an ascending wavy, branched, and flowering stem upon which two pheasants are seated, around which a green vine winds. The flowers are: red and white lotus, large purple and pinkish-red peony, blue and pink lotus, purple and pink carnation, and fantasy flowers in pink, purple, yellow, and blue. The leaves resemble those of chrysanthemums. The curtain consists of two panels. It has short fringe along the sides and long fringe along the bottom, striped in green, salmon, yellow, blue, white, and light brown, beginning as a galon with a zigzag pattern and then knotted. Lining of fine twill light brown cotton and 20th-century shantung; under the long fringe, lining of white satinette.
