Strip or cuff of bobbin lace with sickle-shaped leaf

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Valenciennes lace. The strip is slightly curved, because it is provided with some pleats at the ends and is cut diagonally at both short sides and finished with a narrow border of net. It is possibly used as a cuff. Under a narrow border with three rows of sown knots the repeating pattern consists of a sickle-shaped leaf, which bends around a configuration of three openwork circles with jagged edges. Hanging from the circles is a smaller openwork oval and hanging from the leaf is a small bunch of berries. Along the lower edge of the strip runs a border of openwork motifs, where the jagged edge, which runs like a kind of crown on top, touches the edge of the next. The motifs are connected by a fine lattice ground, a net ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch with mostly large cut-outs and thicker and contour threads. Decorative grounds have been applied in the circles, the berries and the motifs along the lower edge.
