Strip of bobbin lace with a pearl necklace in a compound vine

Strip of natural-coloured Brussels bobbin lace. The pattern consists of a wavy vine, which is composed of all kinds of leaves, a heart-shaped flower, a cluster of oval flowers, a string of pearls and at the end a carnation from which four-leaf clovers sprout. The vine partly cuts through the pattern along the underside of the strip, which consists of, among other things, a twig of forget-me-nots, an oval cartouche and linked leaves and rosette flowers. The motifs are connected to each other by a fine mesh ground, a drochet ground. The filling is largely made in linen stitch with openwork edges and some openings. Some flower hearts and petals and the like are made in net stitch. Most motifs are provided with cutwork relief contours. As a filler ground a snowflake ground is applied in the centre of the oval cartouche and between the cluster flowers picoted braids. The upper side is finished with a separate cutwork band, to which fragments of a hexagonal mesh ground are attached.
