Strip of bobbin lace with flying insects among flower branches

Strip of natural-colored Brussels bobbin lace. The pattern consists of flying insects between flower branches with various larger and smaller flowers. Along the bottom edge the pattern consists of a variety of curling leaves, fruits, rosette flowers and decorative bands that form asymmetrical cartouches. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground, a droschel ground. The work is largely made in linen stitch with openwork edges and cutouts. Some (flower) petals and insect wings are made in net stitch. Most motifs are provided with cutwork relief contours. Various decorative grounds are applied, including fine snowflake grounds and picoted plaited grounds in the cartouches and picoted plaited grounds between the flower branches. The top edge is finished straight. The irregularly scalloped bottom edge is finished with picots.
