Strip of bobbin lace with overlapping organic forms including rocaille and leaves

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. The repeating pattern consists of overlapping and merging organic forms including a rocaille, leaves and flower branches. The pattern along the upper edge is halved. The strip is therefore intended to be worn, symmetrically doubled, as a jabot. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground, the Mechelen ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch, with thicker and shiny contour threads. Various decorative grounds are applied in which motifs without contour threads are incorporated such as flowers and rocailles. The slightly scalloped lower side comes from the pattern and is finished with picots. The upper side is finished straight.
