Strip of bobbin lace with exotic flower and poppy head

Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. The repeating pattern consists of two compositions with hanging flower branches. One composition consists of an arch in the form of the Greek capital letter omega, surrounded by volute leaves and filled with a hanging branch with three different flowers or seed pods, including a poppy head. The other composition consists of a flower branch hanging from the top edge with four different flowers, including an exotic-looking flower with a long style. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground, the Mechelen ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch with cut-outs, and provided with thicker and shiny contour threads. Several decorative grounds are applied, including a snowflake ground. The scalloped lower edge results from the pattern and is finished with picots. The upper edge is finished straight.
