About this work
Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. The repeating and continuous pattern consists of a palm-shaped flower on a long curved stem with a volute leaf curling towards the underside. The motifs are connected by a fine lattice ground, a five-hole ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch and net stitch in which figures are made with snowflakes. Around the motifs slightly thicker and shiny contour threads are applied. In a remaining space a decorative ground is also applied with snowflakes. The slightly scalloped underside results from the pattern and is finished with picots. The upper side is finished straight.
