Insert of bobbin lace edge with two different kinds of flowers on a splitting stem

Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace, Old Flemish lace. The repeating pattern consists of a flower stem with two different flowers, which branch off in opposite directions along the bottom. From the lobed flower that bends back towards the stem, several elongated leaves emerge. These leaves curve partly with a bend towards the end of the stem and partly the other way, where they touch the upper tulip-like flower in the subsequent pattern. The motifs are connected by a lattice ground, a five-hole ground. The work is largely made in linen stitch with openwork edges and in net stitch in the flower hearts of the lobed flower. A snowflake ground is always used as a decorative ground in the space between the two flowers and some snowflakes are used elsewhere as decorative elements. The top and bottom of the strip are finished straight, with a linen band running along the top edge and the bottom edge provided with picots.
