Strip of bobbin lace with a carnation in a U-shaped reserve

Strip of natural-coloured bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. The repeating pattern consists of two compositions, one with a carnation hanging from a U-shaped reserve and the other with an arch formed by two flower branches with one rosette flower at the top. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground, the Mechelen ground. The motifs are made in linen stitch with cut-outs, and provided with thicker and shiny contour threads. A decorative ground with snowflakes combined with larger round motifs is applied in the U-shaped reserves. The scalloped lower edge results from the pattern and is finished with picots. The upper edge is finished straight.
