Strip of natural-colored bobbin lace: Mechelen lace. The repeating pattern consists of flower sprigs between successive horn-shaped reserves, which stand upwards with curling points and begin with the wide base along the lower edge. The motifs are connected by a fine mesh ground, the Mechelen ground. The motifs are worked in linen stitch with cutouts, and provided with thicker and shiny contour threads. Various grounds are applied, including a snowflake ground, and in the ground within the horns small motifs are worked in the form of rosette flowers and dots. The scalloped lower edge results from the pattern and is finished with picots. The upper edge is straight finished.
